October
Cambridge Civil War Days - Cambridge Historical Society
Cambridge Village - October 1st.

The annual fundraiser for the Cambridge Historical Society. A presentation of Civil War reeneactors as well as Abraham Lincoln will highlight this event in Cambridge Village. Don Wickman, a Civil War scholar, will be discussing his new book on George Houghton, Vermont's own Civil War photographer, sponsored by Cambridge Arts Council. We've got Civil War Union soldiers, President Lincoln, and Governor Fairbanks to speak with you and explain their commitment to the cause. If you want to sign up for the army, there will be recruiters on site (just to be clear, these are Civil War army recruiters) and you will be able to drill with the troops.

We'll also have a photographer there to take your picture with one of the historical figures or in your own 19th century pose. Photos will be taken anachronistically digitally, but the results will be authentically sepia-toned. There will also be a display of Civil War memorabilia from David Gates and an exhibit on the history of the Ellenwood property.

Peter Krusch will be demonstrating blacksmithing and we'll have a collection of historic equipment loaned by the Dodges. Of course, look for our usual complement of homemade sweets and chowder and beans, which are always a hit. This year we're outsourcing the grill to George Rogers, and we will have our usual raffle with a good collection of items. Commemorative t-shirts will be available for sale, courtesy of Cambridge Artists and Entrepreneurs (CAE).
